Dhoni named ambassador for Nepal Cricket

Mumbai, June 18: Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been appointed as the goodwill ambassador for Nepal cricket. Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation of Nepal, Posta Bahadur Bogati, made the announcement in a function in Kathmandu.

The Indian captain was in Nepal with an aim to promote cricket in the country. "Youth should come forward for sports besides studies as it helps earn goodwill for the country," Dhoni said while talking to reporters at the Tribhuvan International Airport upon his arrival on Saturday.

"Cricket is an upcoming sport in Nepal and I want to see Nepali youth forming a famous cricket team in future", he said.

Dhoni was impressed to see the enthusiasm towards cricket among the youngsters of Nepal. "I am happy to see the youth playing cricket or take up the sport. This is my first trip and I do not know much about the venues over here. But it was good to see that although it was quite hot, the youngsters were playing cricket," said Dhoni.

While expressing keenness to promote the game in the country, Dhoni urged Nepal’s cricket officials to get permission from the ICC to construct a cricket stadium in the country.

"I have seen stadiums being made and the minimum it takes is one and a half to two years. So, why don’t you guys make a stadium? Since Nepal does play under-age cricket and also the T-20 format, they can proceed and ask ICC if there is a possibility for the stadium or not," he suggested.
