Wasim Jaffer’s unbeaten 285 flattens Rest of India

Wasim Jaffer (285* off 425) guided Vidarbha to 598 for three until Stumps on Day 2 after resuming the day on 289 for two in the morning. The senior batsman completed 18000 first-class runs and became the highest scorer in the history of the tournament as he continued to dictate the proceedings in Nagpur.

After resuming his innings on 113, Jaffer carried the momentum into the second day. Batting with patience and determination the top-order batsman bolstered the Vidarbha total with Ganesh Satish. The pair chipped away at the opposition as they took the team to Lunch at 407 for two.

Jaffer continued to hold the fort as he gleaned runs off the opposition with panache. He was ably partnered by Satish who too reached the three-figure mark in the second session. They continued to keep the Rest of India attack at bay as they piled on runs and took Vidarbha to Tea at 504 for two. The duo had added 289 runs for the third wicket until Satish returned to the dressing room for 120 in the final session of the day. The middle-order batsman departed edging Siddharth Kaul to KS Bharat behind the stumps.

Jaffer then continued to carry the innings forward with Apoorv Wankhede. Their partnership was unbroken on 91 when play ended for the day.
