Here’s the wrap from the second day’s play:
In Guwahati, Riyan Parag’s 66 off 157 helped Assam secure a first-innings lead over Services. Assam managed to take a 38-run lead after bowling out Services for 124 in the first innings.
In the second innings, Services, at the close of play on the second day, had scored 130/4, leading Assam by 92 runs.
While Mizoram put up a fight in the second innings, scoring 290, after being bowled out for 65 in the first innings, Manipur, having taken a 224-run lead, will need just 66 runs to start their Ranji Trophy campaign with a win.
R Sanjay Yadav, who had scored a fifty on the opening day of the match, starred with the ball to put Meghalaya in ascendency against Nagaland on the second day of the match.
The left-arm spinner picked up as many as nine wickets, helping his team secure a 149-run lead in the first innings. However, Nagaland were left reeling at 89/9 in their second innings, with Meghalaya’s Imliwati picking up six wickets.
Tripura, who had scored 289 after put in to bat, bowled out the Saurabh Tiwary-led Jharkhand for 136 in the first innings. In the second innings, Jharkhand were 91/2 at the close of play with Virat Singh, who scored 47 in the first innings, and Rahul Prasad in the middle.
In the Plate Group clash in Patna, Paras Dogra scored 70 and Ashith Rajiv chipped in with 50 before Pondicherry were all out for 300, having taken a 127-run lead against Bihar. Led by Ashutosh Aman, Bihar lost four wickets for 61 runs before stumps.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Sujit Lenka scored a half-century as Odisha, who had bowled out Chhattisgarh for 136 in the first innings, took a 81-run lead at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on the second day of the game. Chhattisgarh ended the day at 45/1, trailing Odisha by 36 runs.
While Manprit Juneja missed out on a hundred, his 94 and Rujul Bhatt's 65 helped Gujarat take a first-innings lead against Hyderabad in the Group A game in Hyderabad.
After Robin Uthappa and Poonam Rahul’s 102 and 97 respectively on the opening day, skipper Sachin Baby joined the party, scoring 155, before Kerala declared their innings at 525/9 against Delhi. The Dhruv Shorey-led unit then lost two wickets before the end of the day’s play.
Skipper Mandeep Singh’s hundred and fifties from Gurkeerat Mann and Anmol Malhotra helped Punjab secure a first-innings lead over Rajasthan in the Group A match in Jaipur.
Ganesh Satish scored an unbeaten 113 while Mohit Kale scored 82 as Vidarbha ended the second day at 268/4, leading Andhra Pradesh by 57 runs.
While the defending champions were in a spot of bother, having lost three wickets, including a golden duck for Wasim Jaffer, for 61, Ganesh Satish and Kale added 184 runs together, helping Vidarbha secure a first-innings lead.
Bowlers, like on the day one of the Himachal Pradesh versus Saurashtra match, dominated the proceedings as Saurashtra, who had taken a 21-run lead in the first innings, bowled out Himachal Pradesh for 182, with skipper Jaydev Unadkat scalping six wickets. Saurashtra ended the day at 96/3, needing 66 runs more to win the match.
After Krishnappa Gowtham’s quickfire 51 pushed Karnataka past 330, Tamil Nadu scored 165 runs, losing four wickets at the close of play on the second day.
Amit Mishra and Himanshu Sangwan scalped four wickets each as Railways bowled out Uttar Pradesh for 175, securing a 78-run lead in the first innings.
For Uttar Pradesh, opener Almas Shaukat scored 92. Uttar Pradesh, though, have managed to keep themselves in the match as Railways lost five wickets for 58 runs before stumps.
While Baroda opener Kedar Devdhar’s unbeaten 154 pushed Baroda past 300, Shams Mulani, who had earlier scored 89 to help Mumbai post 431 runs on the board, picked up five wickets to put Mumbai in command.
In the Group C clash in Rohtak, Haryana scored 401, batting first against Maharashtra. While Shubham Rohilla scored 142, Shivam Chauhan scored 117 runs. Maharashtra, before stumps on the second day, lost four wickets for 88 runs.
Jammu and Kashmir, having scored 304 runs in the second innings after securing a 98-run lead in the first innings, scalped three Uttarakhand wickets at the close of play on the second day.
Chandigarh, who scored 503/2 declared on the back of Arslan Khan’s unbeaten double hundred and centuries from Shivam Bhambri and Manan Vohra, have taken big strides towards an innings-win after bowling out Arunachal Pradesh for 147 in the first innings. The Ranji Trophy debutant then enforced follow-on and reduced the opponents to 164/6 at stumps.
Amit Verma and Snehal Kauthankar scored hundreds while Suyash Prabhudessai scored 91 before Goa declared at 436/6. Sikkim, who were bowled out for 136 in the first innings, then lost two wickets for 22 runs at stumps on the second day.
