Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an unbeaten hundred as India Under-19 defeated Afghanistan Under-19 in the first Youth ODI at the Ekana Cricket Stadium B ground in Lucknow on Friday.
India Under-19 chose to bowl first after skipper Priyam Garg won the toss. The Afghanistan Under-19 openers - Farhan Zakhil, who was captaining the team, and Sediqullah Atal – put up a 43-tun stand before Ravi Bishnoi picked up three quick wickets to reduce Afghanistan side to 56/3.
Atharva Ankolekar, Jaiswal and Kartik Tyagi then shared the spoils, scalping three, two and two wickets respectively as India bowled out their opponents for 171 in 47.1 overs.
In the chase, Jaiswal and Arjun Azad provided India a quickfire start. The two added 95 runs together before the latter got out for 29 on the final ball of the 15th over.
After Azad’s dismissal, NT Tilak Varma joined hands with Jaiswal. The former remained not out for 29 from 41 balls as the pair stitched a 77-run partnership for the second wicket.
Jaiswal, meanwhile, scored an unbeaten 108, hitting 16 fours and 4 sixes in his 83-ball stay in the middle, and helped India cross the finish line in under 28 overs to complete a nine-wicket win.
The second match of the five-game series will be played on November 24.
