India Under 19 were knocked out of the Asian Cricket Council's U19 Youth Asia Cup after an eight-wicket loss to Bangladesh Under-19s.
After India made 187 for eight in 32 overs in the rain curtailed game, Bangladesh attained the revised 190-run target (Duckworth-Lewis) in 28 overs.
Asked to bat first at the Royal Selangor Club, India were 23 for one in 5.5 overs when rain stopped play. When play resumed with the match reduced to 32-overs-a-side, Himanshu Rana (15) and Anuj Rawat had taken the team to 37 when the captain was sent back by Nayeem Hasan. After 31 runs, Riyan Parag was removed by Robiul Haque.
The Bangladesh bowlers continued to strike at regular intervals. The bowler then followed up with the wicket of Anuj Rawat to leave India on 82 for four. And 14 runs later, removed Abhishek Sharma leaving India reeling at 96 for five. Harvik Desai was the next to return to the dressing room; trapped lbw by Naeem Hasan.
While Salman Khan held one end up to keep the Indian innings in the fray, AH Dhrubo claimed Darshan Nalkande and Shiva Singh to leave India on 165 for eight. Salman, who remained not out on 39 took India to 187 for eight with Mandeep Singh.
Bangladesh then attained the 190-run target with ease. Opener Pinak Gosh anchored the team to victory with an unbeaten 77-ball 81-run knock. After an 82-run opening stand with MD Naim Sheikh, Gosh took the team to the three-figure mark with Mohammed Saif Hassan. Mandeep Singh, who had claimed the opener for 38 also accounted for the Bangladesh captain to leave the side on 108 for two. MD Tawhid Hridoy (48* off 32) then joined Gosh in taking the team to the finish line.
With the win over India, Bangladesh top the Group ‘A’ table with six points.
