With seven points from a resounding victory over Maharashtra, Delhi have taken their points total to 24 and paved their way into the quarter-finals. Bengal replaced Punjab at the second position in Group D and kept themselves on course for a place in the knock-outs.
Wasim Jaffer and Ganish Satish’s centuries helped set up the match for Vidarbha while Yomahesh and N Jagadeesan’s hundreds helped TN seize a first innings lead. Sanju Samson scored a solid century against Saurashtra.
Shardul Thakur picked a five-for as Mumbai seized a first innings lead against Andhra. Diwesh Pathania claimed his third ten-wicket haul as he bowled Services to their first win of the season.
Here are the highlights of Day 3 – Round 6 of Ranji Trophy 2017-18:
Group AAssam vs Hyderabad: Following on, Assam were 300 for seven at Stumps on Day 3 and were leading by 110 runs.
Resuming their second innings on 36 for two, the hosts put forth a better performance on the penultimate day of the match. Rishav Das scored a half-century (52 off 137) to keep the innings in the reckoning while Amit Sinha anchored the innings with a stoic knock. Although, after the departure of Rishav leaving the side on 108 for four, Assam lost a couple of quick wickets. At 131 for six, Rajjakuddin Ahmed joined Amit in taking the innings forward. The duo had added 120 runs to the tally when Ahmed was bowled by Ravi Kiran for 75.
When play ended for the day, Amit was batting on 96 with Pritam Das on 14.

After resuming on 59 for eight, Maharashtra were bowled out for 99 and asked to follow on. Vikas Mishra claimed Chirag Khurana and ten runs later, N Dhumal was dismissed by Manan Sharma to wrap-up the innings.
The visitors’ woes continued as Ishant Sharma trapped M Trunkwala lbw to leave Maharashtra on 5/1. After 27 runs, NS Shaikh was removed by Mishra while NA Saini followed up with the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad a bit later to leave the team on 56 for three.
R Triptahi (106 off 78) who then came to the crease fought a lone battle to keep the innings afloat. However, Saini and Mishra ran through the lineup to hand Delhi a comprehensive win.
While Saini and Mishra claimed four wickets each, Ishant picked two to help Delhi to a bonus point.

Umang Sharma and Shivam Choudhary got the home team off to a good start with 106-run stand. Gowtham K bowled Choudhary for 57 while Suresh Raina was trapped lbw by Ronit More in the next over leaving the side on 107 for two. 55 runs later, Shreyas Gopal accounted for Umang while Akshdeep Nath was sent back by More leaving the side on 173 for four. Mohammed Saif, who had battled on to make 28 off 79 was removed by Karun Nair leaving UP on 201 for five. When play ended for the day, Rinku Singh (57*) was batting with Upendra Yadav (9*).

Gujarat vs Team Rajasthan: Gujarat declared their innings on 601 for four after resuming on 450 for three. Skipper Parthiv Patel was the only Gujarat wicket to fall on the third day. The wicketkeeper-batsman returned to the dressing room for 173 after resuming his innings on 119 in the morning. When he declared the innings later in the day, Manprit Juneja was unbeaten on 83 with R Bhatt on 13.
S Desai then gave Gujarat an early breakthrough by accounting for AV Gautam and leaving Rajasthan on 9/1. However, C Bist and Robin Bist forged a partnership to lay a foundation. They had taken the visitors to 124 when Desai claimed C Bist to end the stand. 57 runs later, Robin was removed by Bhatt while Piyush Chawla followed up with the wicket of S Sharma to leave the team on 182 for four.
Gujarat will have their sights set on a win as Rajasthan were trailing by 265 runs with six wickets in hand at Stumps.

Ram Dayal claimed a five-for while Mohammed Mudhasir picked two as J & K kept the Haryana line-up in check. Rajat Paliwal was the top-score for Haryana on Day 3 with 45 runs.

Kerala vs Saurashtra: As they look to stake a claim for a place in the knock-outs, Kerala set Saurashtra a 405-run target. Having conceded a narrow first innings lead, Kerala, who are at No 3 with 18 points put up a solid batting display in their second innings to set Saurashtra a target.
Propelled by Sanju Samson’s 175 they declared their innings on 411 for six later in the day. The middle-order bat’s efforts were supplemented by a solid 81 KB Arun Karthick and useful contributions from the rest of the lineup.
Chasing the mammoth total, Saurashtra were 30 for one when play ended for the day. The current table-toppers (23 points) have already seized a first innings lead and will get three points in case of a draw.

Group C
Tamil Nadu vs Madhya Pradesh: Centuries by N Jagadeesan and V Yomahesh helped Tamil Nadu seize a 62-run first innings lead.
Jagadeesan and Yomahesh resumed the TN innings on 191 for six in the morning. The opener who was batting on 94 when play started on the third day returned to pavilion for 101; bowled by Avesh Khan. With the team on 203 for seven, M Mohammed then joined the middle-order in the effort to claim a first innings lead. The pair put together 92 runs as they helped the team overhaul MP’s first innings score of 264 until Mihir Hirwani ended the partnership. The spinner also R Sai Kishore a while later while Vignesh K was dismissed by Ankit Sharma to end TN’s innings. Yomahesh remained unbeaten on 103.
MP were 142 for one when play ended for the day with Rajat Patidar (81*) and Shubham Sharma (41*) in the middle.

Baroda vs Odisha: Odisha were 316 for five at Stumps on Day 3 and trailing by 187 runs.
After resuming on 64 for two, Shubranshu Senapati held the Odisha innings together on the penultimate day of the match. He was batting on 131 with Rajesh Dhuper on 13 when play ended for the day.

Andhra vs Mumbai: Mumbai seized a 117-run first innings lead by bowling Andhra out for 215 earlier in the day. Building on the lead, the visitors were 190 for four when play ended for the day. Shreyas Iyer was batting on 75 with Aditya Tare on one at Stumps.
Earlier, after Hanuma Vihari and Ricky Bhui resumed the hosts innings on 74 for two, the Mumbai pacers kept Andhra in check by striking at regular intervals. Shardul Thakur claimed 5/55 while Dhawal Kulkarni picked 3/44 and Abhishek Nayar picked one to help seize a crucial first innings lead.

Group D
Chhattisgarh vs Services: Diwesh Gurudev Pathania bowled Services to their first win of the ongoing season with his third ten-wicket haul. The visitors sailed to an innings and nine-run win over the home team in Raipur.
After claiming 4/45 in the first innings, Pathania returned to register his best bowling figures in an innings 7/41 (previous best in an innings was (7/64) as he wrecked the Chhattisgarh lineup.
After Chhattisgarh resumed their second innings on 24 without loss, Pathania castled Siddharth Chandrakar to leave the team on 30 for one. From there on it was downhill for the hosts as the bowler continued to strike at quick intervals. He claimed the first six wickets that fell on the day leaving the team reeling on 96 for six. Raj Bahadur Pal complemented him by claiming three for 25 and bundle Chhattisgarh out for 133 later in the day to claim victory.

Punjab vs Bengal: Bengal won by innings and 19 runs and replaced Punjab at the No 2 spot in the Group D points table.
After resuming on 309 for three, Bengal declared their innings on 379 for nine with a 232-run first innings lead. Abhishek Kumar Raman was batting on 149 when play resumed on the third morning and was sent back by Sandeep Sharma for 155. The rest of the lineup returned without substantial contributions as Siddharth Kaul ran through the lineup to finish with a five-for. Aamir Gani was not out on 35 when Bengal declared their innings.
Ishan Porel then dismantled the hosts line-up with P Pramanik and B Amit.
Porel ended the opening stand for 38 with the wicket of Jiwanjot Singh while Pramanik followed up with the wicket of Uday Kaul. In the next over, Porel sent back Shubhman Gill to leave Punjab on 39 for three. Anmolpreet Singh and Gurkeerat Mann then made an effort to rebuild the innings, but Gani struck to end the blossoming stand. He claimed Mann to leave the hosts on 129 for four. 21 runs later Anmolpreet to was sent back by Amit. Porel and Co then wrapped up the Punjab innings for 213 and claim victory.

Goa vs Vidarbha: After resuming on 199 for two, Vidarbha were powered to 427 for three by Wasim Jaffer (158*) and Ganesh Satish (101*) . The pair were involved in an unbroken 171-run stand until Vidarbha declared their innings with a 188-run first innings lead.
A Wakhare and A Sarvate had then picked a wicket each to leave the hosts on 19 for two at stumps. Goa were trailing by 169 runs at the end of day’s play.
Currently the table-toppers with 21 points, Vidarbha have ensured themselves three points with a first innings lead and will have their sights set on a win.
