Delhi, Vidarbha and Maharashtra register victories

Odisha picked a first innings lead against table-toppers Karnataka, who had won four of their five matches earlier this season.

Nitish Rana and lower-order batsman Sumit Narwal helped Delhi to victory while spinners – Akshay Wakhare and Mohammed Azhar Sheikh - set up a win for Vidarbha.

Anupam Sanklecha (8/73 and 4/71) starred in Maharashtra’s win with 14 wickets against Assam.

Group B, Round 7 - Day 4 Round-up:

After resuming on 51 for three, Delhi’s Vikas Tokas was out for the addition of 11 runs to the overnight score. A while later Shikhar Dhawan was sent back by TM Ul Haq, who also later accounted for Milind Kumar to leave Delhi on 100 for six.

As they chased the 153-run target, Nitish Rana then took the team to 137 with Sumit Narwal before being run out. The lower-order batsman then took the team to the finish line with an unbeaten 27-run knock.

Karnataka vs Odisha at Palam in New Delhi: Karnataka 179 (Chidambaram Gautam 54; Basant Mohanty 3 for 46, Biplab Samantray 2 for 20) & 393/10 (CM Gautam 95, S Gopal 77, K Gowtham 46, Dhiraj Singh 5/98) drew Odisha 342/10 (Saurabh Rawat 85, Biplab Samantray 58, Shreyas Gopal 5/75) & 63/0 (R Singh 35*, S Pattanaik 27*) Odisha took 1st inn lead.

Karnataka were bowled out for 393 on the fourth day after adding 149 runs to their overnight total for the loss of four wickets. C M Gautam missed out on his century by five runs as the Dhiraj Singh-led attack wrapped up Karnataka’s second innings.

Chasing 231 runs, Odisha were 63 without loss when the match ended in a draw. Having secured a first innings lead, the Govind Podder-led team gained three points from the game while the table toppers collected only one point for the first time this season.

After Saurashtra resumed their second innings on 92 for two off spinner Akshay Wakhare and leg spinner Mohammed Azhar Sheikh bowled the team out for 189 on the last day of the game to set up the game for Vidarbha.

Wakhare claimed three while Sheikh finished with four wickets in the innings as they ran through the Saurashtra lineup.

Chasing the 144-run target, opener SR Ramaswamy (51) and G Satish (56*) scored half-centuries to help the team to a thumping eight-wicket win.

Resuming the innings on 115 for six, KB Arun Karthick and Sarupam Purkayastha rallied to add 83 runs to the tally until Satyajit Bacchav claimed the latter to end the stand. Two runs later Mohammed Sayyed bowled Abu Nechim Ahmed and followed up with the wicket of Arup Das to bring Maharashtra within a wicket of victory. Anupam Sanklecha then wrapped up the game by disrupting Mrinmoy Dutta’s stumps to bowl Assam out for 234. The pacer finished with 12 wickets from the match.
