Bowlers help Hyderabad maintain the upper-hand after batsmen post 328 runs in the first innings. Tripura and Chhattisgarh secure a first innings lead while Goa set Andhra a stiff target. Propelled by G Singh’s century, Haryana post a mammoth first innings total in the penultimate round of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17.

Kerala vs Tripura in Cuttack: Tripura 1st inn 213/10 in 79.5 overs (Yashpal Singh 50, MB Murasingh 42, S Warrier 3/34, J Saxena 3/37); Kerala 1st inn 193/10 in 72.2 overs (Mohd. Azharudeen 40, A Chandran 36*, S Majumder 4/43, MB Murasingh 4/52); Tripura 2nd inn 17/0 Lead by 37 runs
Tripura bowled Kerala out for 193 to secure a 20-run first innings lead after the Rohan Prem-led team resumed their innings on 11 without loss in the morning. Pacers MB Murasingh and SS Mujumder claimed four wickets each as they ran through the lineup, while Mohd. Azharudeen (40 runs) top-scored for Kerala. The Tripura openers – B Gosh and U Bose - then took the team to stumps at 17 without loss, extending the lead to 37 runs.

After resuming their innings on 234 for three, Hyderabad were all out for 328 on the second day. Opener Tanmay Agarwal added 13 runs to his overnight score before he was sent back by Suhail Andleeb for 119. The bowler also accounted for Mehdi Hasan later in the innings while Samiullah Beigh finished with three wickets and Parvez Rasool with four as they bowled the team out.
Ravi Kiran then claimed J & K opener Ahmad Omar Banday in the first over to set the tone for the innings. Complemented by rest of the attack, the Hyderabad attack maintained a strangle hold on the innings. While the Hyderabad bowlers maintained the upper-hand, stand-in captain Rasool scored a determined 70 to keep the innings afloat. When play ended for the day, Beigh batting on 28 with Ram Dayal (7*) had taken the team to 156 for seven.

Bowled out for 159, Andhra had secured a 44-run first innings lead on the first day, Goa scored 276 in the second innings before being bowled out to set the opposition a 233-run target. With two innings completed on Day 1, Goa put up a better display in their second innings to score 276. With spinners continuing to get purchase from the wicket, Andhra used spinners after opening the bowling with CV Stephen, who bowled only nine overs. While Bhargav Bhatt and B Siddharth picked two wickets each, captain Hanuma Vihari too bowled. The part-time spinner picked three for 17 as they looked to plug the flow of runs. However, Snehal Kauthankar’s 77-ball 61 and Saurabh Bandekar’s 79-ball 75 helped Goa set up even contest.
Shadab Jakati then dealt the first blow by claiming opener DB Prasanth with just 28 runs on the board while part-timer bowler Amulya Pandrekar followed up with the key wickets of KS Bharat and Hanuma Vihari to leave Andhra on 36 for three. As they looked to stabilize the innings, DM Ravi Teja (35*) and Ricky Bhui (32*) took the team to stumps at 99 for three.

Half-century by Amandeep Khare and 65-ball 67 by Manoj Singh down the order helped Chhattisgarh to a 56-run first innings lead against Services. Resuming the innings, they lost Abhimanyu Chauhan without any addition to the overnight score. Even as the D G Pathania-led attack picked wickets at regular intervals, the Chhattisgarh lineup kept the innings in the reckoning with valuable contributions. The middle-order’s efforts helped the side to 281 before being bowled out later in the day.

After Haryana resumed their innings on 237 for three, debutant, G Singh was the first to depart for the addition of 10 runs to his overnight score. He was sent back for 120 by Rishi Dhawan on the second morning. S Rohilla, who had retired hurt early in the innings, also returned to add useful runs before he was bowled for 64 while RP Sharma made a half-century. Even as KD Singh and Dhawan struck at regular intervals the Haryana batsmen ensured their side a healthy total before being bowled out.
KD Singh (six for 84) claimed his maiden five-for while Dhawan took three wickets as HP bowled Haryana out for 402.
P Mehta then accounted for R Thakur to leave Himachal on 41 for one while Mohit Sharma followed up with the wicket of P Chopra 27 runs later. And S Pahal then sent back the P Dogra with the team on 95. Robin Bist then took the team to stumps on 101 for three with S Verma.
