Karnataka seize first innings lead

TM Ul Haq picked six wickets as pacers helped Team Rajasthan to a first innings lead against Vidarbha. In Mohali, Karnataka claimed first innings lead against Maharashtra as they look to strengthen their position in the points table.

Pradeep Sangwan made 75 as Delhi extended their first innings lead on the second day while K Parmar’s century helped Saurashtra put up a better performance in the second innings.

Group B Round 9 – Day 2 Round-up:

Saurashtra vs Delhi in Vadodara: Sau 1st inn 92/10 in 33.2 overs (P Mankad 33, P Sangwan 4/25, S Narwal 4/27); Delhi 1st inn 237/10 in 58.3 overs (P Sangwan 75, K Patel 5/72); Sau 2nd inn 234/5 in 77 overs (K Parmar 141*, S Jackson 40, N Rana 2/20) Lead by 89 runs

After resuming Delhi’s innings on 194 for eight, Pradeep Sangwan worked to extend Delhi’s lead with P Narang. The tail-ender had taken to team to 237 when he was sent back for 75 by Kamlesh Makwana. In the following over, Narang too was sent back by K Patel without a run added to the total. The bowler finished with a five-for as he wrapped up the innings.

While Amarjit Saini and Nitish Rana claimed two wickets each and the latter affected a run out to keep the Saurashtra middle-order in check, K Parmar patiently held up one end to keep the innings in fray. The opener was batting on 141 off 228 balls as he saw the team through to stumps with A Vasavada (25*)

Maharashtra vs Karnataka in Mohali: Maha 1st inn 163/10 in 56 overs (R Motwani 32, Vinay Kumar 5/46, S Arvind 2/32, S Binny 2/40); Kar 1st inn 313/9 in 101 overs (P Deshpande 70, R Samarth 64, A Sanklecha 3/69, M Sayyad 2/42) Lead by 150 runs

The Karnataka middle-order ensured the side a first innings lead with valuable knocks through the day even as the Anupam Sanklecha-led attack picked wickets at regular intervals. Resuming on 67 for one, Karnataka were 313 for nine at the end of day’s play. While R Samarth scored 64 after resuming on 33 in the morning, P Deshpande was the top-scorer for the team with 70 runs. When play ended for the day, Vinay Kumar was batting on 36 with A Sreenath on 1.

Vidarbha vs Team Rajasthan in Noida: Team Raj 1st inn 140/10 in 41.1 overs (MN Singh 27, A Sarvate 3/22, S Wagh 2/23, Lalit 2/46, R Gurbani 2/46); Vid 1st inn 116/10 in 41.3 overs (SK Wath 50, TM Ul Haq 6/21, P Singh 3/52); Team Raj 2nd inn 10/0 11 overs. Lead by 34 runs.

The Rajasthan pace attack led by Pankaj Singh bowled the team to a narrow 24-run first innings lead by skittling Vidarbha out for 114. After they resumed their innings on 14 without loss, A Choudhary accounted for Faiz Fazal to give the side their first breakthrough with the crucial wicket. Pankaj Singh and TM UlHaq then ran through the lineup and pushed the opposition on the backfoot. While Haq claimed six wickets, the captain picked three including that of Vidarbha’s top-scorer SK Wath. The No 4 bat made a valiant half-century as the rest of the line caved in to the attack.

The Team Rajasthan openers – A Gautam and MN Singh - then took the team to stumps on 10 runs thus extending the lead to 34 runs at the end of day’s play.
