Karnataka seal knockout berth, Maharashtra out

Karnataka beat Maharashtra comprehensively in three days and displaced Jharkhand from the top of the table. The ten-wicket win has earned the Vinay Kumar-led team a bonus point, taking their points tally to 37.

In Vadodara, Delhi’s match against Saurashtra is headed for a thrilling finish. Rishabh Pant was at the crease when play ended for the day as the team need 174 runs to win with six wickets in hand. A loss will knock the Gautam Gambhir-led team out of reckoning for a spot in the quarter-finals.

The match between Jharkhand and Odisha will be held from 15th to 18 December, 2016 and the result will have a bearing on the group’s points table.

Karnataka cruised to a resounding win against Maharashtra on the penultimate day of the last round of the league phase.

Karnataka were bowled out for 345 in the first innings after resuming on 313 for nine earlier in the day. Skipper Vinay Kumar helped the team to a 182-run lead with an unbeaten on 56. The side then bowled Maharashtra out for 218 and chased down the 38-run target to claim victory.

Vinay Kumar claimed R Motwani to set the ball rolling while Abhimanyu Mithun picked two wickets and David Mathias took three. With all the seven bowlers in the attack picking at least one wicket each, Maharashtra were bowled out in 47.3 overs. Kedar Jadhav was the only Maharashtra batsman to show resistance; scoring 85 runs as he looked to keep the innings afloat. The Karnataka openers then attained the nominal target in 10 overs.

After resuming their innings on 234 for five, they went on to post 420 before being bowled out earlier in the day. Arpit Vasavda’s 89 followed by Jaydev Unadkat’s contribution of 80 runs helped them set Delhi a 276-run target.

Kushang Patel the claimed Shikhar Dhawan while Shaurya Sanandia claimed three of the top four batsmen to leave Delhi wobbling on 79 for four. Rishabh Pant, who has been the vital cog in Delhi’s lineup this season, was batting with Milind Kumar when play ended for the day. At stumps, Delhi were 109 for four and need 167 runs to win.
