Although Jaydev Shah missed out on a double ton, the captain’s 193-run knock helped Saurashtra maintain the advantage at the end of second day’s play in the Ranji Trophy Round 1 game. At other venues, youngsters Nitish Rana and Rishabh Pant have helped Delhi seize a first innings lead with an unbroken 138-run partnership. Jharkhand’s Kaushal Singh scored a timely century to rescue his team and help claim a first innings lead.

Skipper Jaydev Shah-led Saurashtra to a massive 430-run first innings total before returning to the pavilion seven runs short of a well-deserved double-century. Resuming his innings on 120, the middle-order bat continued to add on to the total. Having come in to bat at 30 for three on the first day, the senior campaigner revived the innings with Sheldon Jackson and put the team in an advantageous position. He was sent back by Mahipal Lomror who also claimed Deepak Punia to finish with two for 16. Useful contributions by the lower-order helped the team past the 400-run mark after his departure on the second day.
Team Rajasthan were 12 without any loss of wicket when rain stopped play at Vizianagaram and couldn’t be resumed.
Odisha vs Vidarbha in Vizag: Odisha 1st inn 150/10 in 78.1 (B Samantaray 53, A Wakhare 3/19); Vidarbha 1st inn 182/2 in 67 overs (F Fazal 76*, G Satish 74, D Behera 1/20) Lead by 32 runs
Having bowled Odisha out for 150 on Day 2, Faiz Fazal and Ganesh Satish helped Vidarbha overhaul the opposition’s first innings score later in the day. After losing his partner, S Ramaswamy with 20 runs on the board, the opener forged a partnership with G Satish to help the team seize the advantage after the bowlers had set the match up for Vidarbha.
At stumps, Fazal was batting on 76 with A Shanware yet to open his account. Earlier in the day, Biplab Samantaray was castled by Shrikant Wagh off the first delivery off the day to leave the team on 134 for seven. A Wakhare then chipped in with two wickets to wrap-up the innings for the addition of a mere 16 runs to the overnight score.
Delhi vs Assam in Baroda: Assam 1st inn 193/10 in 76.3 overs (R Hazarika 37, V Sood 2/29, Pradeep Sangwan 3/47); Delhi 1st inn 241/3 in 71.2 overs (R Pant 84*, N Rana 72*) Lead by 48 runs.
Assam lost their remaining four wickets for 31 runs earlier on the second day and finished with 193 runs in their first innings. Delhi pacer, Pradeep Sangwan, who had been wicketless on the first day claimed three of the remaining four wickets to wrap up the tail.
While Abu Nechim Ahmed claimed Delhi opener Mohit Sharma for five, Unmukt Chand rallied to carry the innings forward with Dhruv Shorey. However, while on 55, the stand-in captain was sent back by Amit Verma. Nitish Rana and Rishabh Pant then helped the side a 48 runs first innings lead until play ended for the day. While Rana was unbeaten on 72, Pant was batting on 84 as Delhi seized the advantage.

After resuming on 33 for two, Jharkhand were 108 for five as A Sanklecha and Shrikant Mundhe ran through the top order. However, lower middle-order bat Kaushal Singh helped the team seize a first innings lead with a century. He was batting on 121 with Varun Aaron on 24 when play ended for the day.
