S Nadeem stars in Jharkhand’s thumping win against Team Rajasthan

Saurashtra and Vidarbha picked three points each on the basis of first innings lead after enforcing follow on, on Maharashtra and Assam respectively.

Jharkhand dominated the proceedings in Vadodara as they defeated Team Rajasthan in the third round match of Ranji Trophy 2016-17. With his second 10-wicket haul, S Nadeem (seven in first innings and five in second) was instrumental in the wins triumph.

Group B, Round 3 – Day 4 Round-up:

Following on, when Maharashtra resumed their innings on the last morning, they were trailing by 361 runs with eight wickets in hand. Having bowled the side out for 182 in their first innings, Saurashtra would have looked for a win while Maharashtra looked for a draw. Debutant opener MS Trunkwala scored a century as he strove to hold the innings together to avert defeat. With his overnight partner, Ankeet Bawane he had taken the side to 220 when Trunkwala was sent back for 117 by D Jadeja.

The Maharashtra middle-order continued to fight it out in the middle even as the Jadeja (four-wickets)-led attack looked to create breakthroughs. With useful knocks from the batsmen down the line, Maharashtra pulled off a draw and received one point for their efforts while Saurashtra took three points.

Having posted 414 runs, Karnataka had secured a 324-run first against lead against Kerala. And with their bowlers skittling Delhi out for 164 the Karun Nair-led team posted a thumping win.

Vidarbha vs Assam in Trivandrum:

Left-arm spinner Aditya Sarwate claimed five wickets as he helped skittle Assam out for 227 on the fourth day to seize a first innings lead and enforce a follow on. After resuming on 98 for three, the Assam lineup caved in to the Vidarbha attack without much resistance. Lower-order bat S Purkayastha was the top-scorer with 44 runs as they were bowled out earlier in the day. Following on, they were 73 for two when the match ended in a draw later in the day.

Jharkhand vs Team Rajasthan in Vadodara:

After claiming a seven-wicket haul in the first innings, Shahbaz Nadeem picked five wickets in the second innings to bowl Jharkhand to a comprehensive win against Team Rajasthan. He finished with 12 wickets in the match.

Chasing 280 runs, Team Rajasthan resumed their innings on 67 for three on the fourth morning and were bowled out for 237 by the S Nadeem-led attack. While the Jharkhand bowlers picked wickets at regular intervals, C Bist put up a toiled to keep the innings afloat with a 136-ball 77. He was the last batsman to be sent back in the innings. A Yadav accounted for the wicketkeeper batsman's wickets to bring curtains down on the game.
