Central Zone finished at the top of the table in the Under 19 Vinoo Mankad inter-zonal trophy 2016-17 on the basis of net run rate. The defending champions retained the trophy in the junior one-day tournament.
The Madhav Kaushik-led team won three of their four games and were tied on points with West Zone, who also won three matches. Both teams had secured 12 points each in the tournament and the winner was decided on the basis of the net run rate.
Points table Propelled by A Wakode’s unbeaten century, Central Zone chased down the 203-run target in 38.2 overs to register an eight-wicket win against South Zone. They had earlier beaten North Zone and East Zone but lost to West Zone.
In their last game of the tournament, West Zone posted a five-wicket win against East Zone as they chased down 207 runs in 34.5 overs. They had earlier lost to South Zone but won against North Zone and Central Zone.
South Zone’s Rohan S Kunnummal emerged as the top run-scorer in the tournament with 253 runs while North Zone’s Shubhman Gill scored 246 runs and finished second in the list.
Central Zone’s Kl Nagarkoti finished at the top of the leading wicket-takers list with 11 wickets from four games while his team-mate SKK Ahmed finished second with nine wickets in the bag.
