Ishan Kishan slams 162 against Delhi

Young middle-order batsman, Ishan Kishan boosted the Jharkhand innings with an unbeaten 162 on the first day of the fifth round of the ongoing Ranji Trophy. In Vadodara, another youngster Lalit Yadav claimed first five-wicket haul in the his debut season for Vidarbha against the solid Karnataka lineup. 

While there was no play possible at the Eden Gardens, Team Rajasthan raised a modest total on the first day against Odisha.

Day 1 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata washed out.

Team Rajasthan vs Odihsa in Patiala: Team Raj 1st inn 249/5 in 78 overs (SF Khan 65*, A Menaria 41, A Mangaraj 1/28)

Asked to bat, Team Rajasthan lost opener AV Gautam for four. With the team on 16 for one, PI Sharma joined MN Singh in the middle, but 38 runs into the stand, the latter was bowled by Alok Mangaraj. Ashok Menaria then helped the opener take the team to 116 until Govind Podder struck. The Odisha bowlers continued to strive at regular intervals as the batsmen worked to shape the innings. Having taken the team to 249 for five, SF Khan was batting on 65 with C Bist on 20 when play ended for the day.

Delhi vs Jharkhand in Trivandrum: Jharkhand 1st inn 359/6 in 88 overs (I Kishan 162*, I Jaggi 55, P Singh 45, S Nadeem 19*, V Sood 2/48, S Bhati 2/53)

Ishan Kishan powered Jharkhand to 359 for six on the first day with an unbeaten 162-run knock after being asked to bat by Delhi. While Virat Singh was sent back for naught by V Tokas and Saurabh Tiwary for nine by Subodh Bhati, Pratyush Singh (45) and Ishank Jaggi (55) made useful contributions to keep the innings in the reckoning. However, it was the youngster’s 213-ball stay at the crease that kept the momentum on Jharkhand’s side at the end of day’s play.

Ishan Kishan was batting with Shahbaz Nadeem when play ended for the day.

Vidarbha vs Karnataka in Vadodara: Kar 1st inn 267/10 in 77 overs (K Gowtham 60*, R Uthappa 46, Lalit 5/67, R Thakur 3/54); Vid 1st inn 10/0 in 3 overs. Trail by 257 runs

Playing in only his third first-class game, Lalit Yadav helped bowl Karnataka out for 267 with his maiden five-wicket haul. He was able complemented by R Thakur in bowling the opposition out after electing to field. The young pacer set the ball rolling with the wicket of Mayank Agarwal for two and continued to strike at regular intervals. Besides Robin Uthappa’s 46 runs at the top of the order, the rest of the lineup succumbed to the pace duo. K Gowtham’s unbeaten 60 off 59 balls lower down the order helped boost Karnataka to a respectable total in the first innings. At stumps, Vidarbha were ten without loss.
