Goa and Kerala secure 1st innings lead

After scoring 182 in Services previous game against J & K, R Gahlaut scored 127 not out to boost his team to 446 against Andhra in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match in Indore.

Goa secured a first innings lead against Chhattisgarh courtesy crucial knocks by S Dubhashi and S Jakati while Kerala too took an first innings lead against Haryana with a day left in the match.

Group C, Round 5 – Day 3 Round-up:


Andhra vs Services in Indore: Services 1st inn 446/10 in (R Gahlaut 127*, DB Ravi Teja 3/25); Andhra 177/1 in 79 overs (DB Prasanth Kumar 90*, KS Bharath 48, V Yadav 1/34) Trail by 269 runs
Overnight batsman R Gahlaut remained unbeaten on 127 after resuming his innings for 95 as Services lost their remaining two wickets for the addition of 46 runs to their overnight score.

In reply to Services’ 446 runs total, Andhra were 177 for one and trailing by 269 runs until the end of day’s play. KS Bharath and DB Prasanth Kumar got the team off to a decent start with an 80-run opening stand. After the wicketkeeper-batsman was bowled by V Yadav for 42, Kumar rallied on to shape the innings. While captain GH Vihari retired hurt on 18, the opener took the team to stumps with SR Koripalli.Kumar was batting on 90 with Koripalli on 24 when play ended for the day.

Himachal vs Jammu & Kashmir in Ranchi: J & K 1st inn 162/10 in 65.2 overs (S Khajuria 48, M Dagar 4/33, P Jaswal 3/37); Himachal 1st inn 370/10 in 98.5 overs (P Dogra 89, R Dhawan 79*, A Aziz 4/56, P Rasool 3/69); J & K 2nd inn 337/4 in 101 overs (ID Chauhan 99, S Khajuria 86, B Sharma 2/88) Lead by 129 runs.

Although they have conceded the first innings lead, J & K put up a better performance with the bat in the second on Day 3 of the match. Trailing by 169 runs, they resumed their second innings on 39 without loss in the morning and went on to post 337 for four until stumps. While Ian Dev Chauhan missed out on a century by one run, Shubham Khajuria made 86 and Parvez Rasool scored 68 to help keep the innings in the fray. At stumps, they were leading by 129 runs with Punit Bisht on 33 and Mithun Manhas on 18 at the crease.

Goa vs Chhattisgarh in Cuttack:
Chhattisgarh 1st inn 198/10 in 71.3 overs (A Khare 60, A Singh 55*, RR Singh 6/60); Goa 1st inn 270/10 in 108.5 overs (S Dubhashi 97, S Jakati 92, P Rao 4/95); Chhattisgarh 2nd inn 95/2 in 35 overs (S Gupta 50*, Mohd. Kaif 38*, S Bandekar 1/14) Lead by 23 runs

Resuming on 127 for six, overnight batsmen - S Dubhashi (97) and Shadab Jakati (92) ensured the team a first innings lead in the game. While both batsmen missed out on well-deserved centuries, their 160-run stand for the seventh wicket tipped the balance in their team’s favour. The partnership was ended by S Gupta with the wicket of Jakati to leave the side on 230 for seven. Dubhashi continued to rally on and was the last Goa batsman to be dismissed; bowled by Rao.

S Bandekar then accounted for Chhattisgarh opener, Abhishek Singh for zero while R Singh bowled Amandeep Khare for naught to leave the side on seven for two. S Gupta and captain Mohd. Kaif then took the team to stumps at 95 for two.

Kerala vs Haryana in Jaipur:
Haryana 1st inn 303/10 in 109.1 overs (R Sharma 92, S Pahal 54, Warrier 5/80); Kerala 1st inn 404/9 decl in 139.2 overs (B Thakkar 79, R Prem 64, I Abdullah 61, H Patel 4/63, Y Chahal 4/119); Haryana 2nd inn 6/0 in 2 overs. Trail by 95 runs

After resuming the innings on 170 for one, Kerala posted 404 for nine before declaring their innings with a 101-run first innings lead later in the day. Boosted by crucial knocks by Bhavin Thakkar (79), Rohan Prem (64), Sachin Baby (52) and Iqbal Abdullah (61) along with useful runs from the rest of the lineup, Kerala tipped the balance in their favour. Having secured a first innings lead they asked Haryana to bat again. Until stumps, the Haryana openers had posted six runs in two overs.
