With his 32nd first-class century, Subramaniam Badrinath went past 10,000 runs in first-class cricket. Leading Hyderabad in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, the batsman scored 134 against Chhattisgarh in the seventh round of the tournament to reach the milestone.
P Vijay Kumar claimed a six-wicket haul to keep Kerala to 188 for eight while centurions Ravi Chauhan and Nakul Verma lifted Services to a respectable total of Day 1 against Himachal.
Harshal Patel-led the Haryana attack to keep the Goa innings in check while the J & K middle-order kept the innings in reckoning with timely half-centuries.
Group C, Round 7 - Day 1 Round-up:Andhra vs Kerala in Guwahati: Kerala 1st inn 188/8 in 89.5 overs (Mohd Azharuddeen 82, Rohan Prem 42, P Vijay Kumar 6/37)
P Vijay Kumar left Kerala reeling on 36 for four after Ayyappa Bandaru gave Andhra their first breakthrough with the wicket of Bhavin Thakker. The bowler claimed three of the first four wickets to push the opponents on the backfoot early in the day. Wicketkeeper Mohammed Azharuddeen then joined Rohan Prem to stem the fall of wickets. The pair added 71 runs for the fifth wicket before the pacer struck again to end the stand. The pacer claimed the Kerala captain and 48 runs later, bowled Iqbal Abdullah to leave the side on 155 for six. A while later Vinod Kumar CV was bowled by DB Ravi Teja while the pacer claimed the wicketkeeper-batsman at the stroke of stumps to finish with six wickets.
Azharuddeen’s 201-ball 82-run knock had helped Kerala to 188 for eight until the end of day’s play.
Chhattisgarh vs Hyderabad in Valsad: Hyderabad 1st inn 267/4 in 88 overs (S Badrinath 134, B Sandeep 73*, A Chauhan 2/22)
Skipper, S Badrinath helped Hyderabad to 267 for four with a 134-run knock in the ongoing game. The experienced campaigner went past 10,000 runs in first-class with the century. He was complemented by B Sandeep in shaping the Hyderabad innings. The middle-order bat was batting on 73 with M Hassan on 10 when play ended for the day.
A Chauhan claimed two wickets while Pankaj Rao and A Kant Singh picked a wicket each.
Himachal vs Services in Surat: Services 1st inn 276/3 in 90 overs (R Chauhan 149, N Verma 113*, P Jaiswal 2/55)
Twin centuries by Ravi Chauhan and Nakul Verma helped Services to 276 for three until stumps on the first day. While Chauhan scored 149 off 247 balls, Verma anchored the innings with 113 not out off 279 balls. The opener was batting with Shamsher Yadav when play ended for the day.
Goa vs Haryana: Goa 1st inn 197/6 in 85 overs (S Kauthankar 80*, H Patel 3/52, A Mishra 2/61)
The Mohit Sharma-led Haryana held Goa to 197 for six on the first day of the game. Harshal Patel claimed Sawpnil Asnodkar and Sagun Kamat upfront to leave Goa on 14 for two. The pacer finished with three wickets while Amit Mishra took two and Mohit Sharma picked one to maintain a stranglehold on the innings through the day. While the bowlers struck at regular intervals. S Kauthankar kept the Goa innings in the reckoning and was unbeaten on 80 at the end of day’s play.
Jammu & Kashmir vs Tripura in Mumbai: J & K 1st inn 270/6 in 90 overs (A Singh 65*, ID Singh 59, P Gupta 55, MB Murasingh 2/59, R Dutta 2/61)
Manisankar Murasingh and Rajib Dutta claimed the openers to leave J & K reeling on 14 for two in the morning. However, Pranav Gupta and Ian Dev Singh scored half-centuries to help stabilise the innings. The duo had taken the team to 123 when Murasingh struck again to send back Singh. Both bowlers took two wickets each while Ajoy Sarkar and Gurinder Singh claimed a wicket each.
Aditya Singh forged useful partnerships with the lower-order to keep the innings afloat and was batting on 65 when play ended for the day.
