India Test captain Virat Kohli has moved to the fourth place in the ICC Test rankings for batsmen after his Man of the Match show in Visakhapatnam Test, which India won by a huge margin of 246 runs. Virat made 167 in the first innings and was on course to get his second ton in the match, before being caught brilliantly in the slips by Ben Stokes when he was on 81.
Virat, who holds the No. 1 spot in T2OI rankings and No. 2 in ODIs, is now making a forward move in the Test rankings as well. He crossed the 800-point mark in the rankings and became the 11th batsman to do so. The 28-year-old now trails second-ranked Joe Root of England by 22 points. Another strong performance in the Mohali Test, which begins on Saturday, 26 November, will mean he will edge closer in his quest to top the batting table.
India’s No. 3, Cheteshwar Pujara, who has scored three centuries in his last three Tests has moved up one place to ninth. Fast bowler Mohammad Shami has gained five places to reach a career-high 21st rank and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja has moved up one position to sixth place.
R Ashwin, who became the leading wicket-taker in 2016 in Tests, continues to hold the No. 1 ranking for bowlers.
