It didn’t rain for two sessions, but that was still not enough for play to resume on day two of the fourth Test as a wet outfield at Queen’s Park Oval meant the two teams had to return without any action. On Friday, 98 overs were to be bowled, but soggy outfield outside of the square and the run-up area taking some beating due to rain on the first day forced the umpires to call off play.
The first inspection was carried out at 10.30 AM local time after which umpires Rod Tucker and Nigel Llong returned one hour later. With no headway, another inspection took place at 1.00 PM. A slight shower meant there was no possibility of any play and the officials took the final call at 2.30 PM.
If the weather stays clear and the outfield dries up sufficiently, India will have three days to force a result in the final Test. Leading the series 2-0, a win in Port of Spain will help Virat Kohli’s men retain the No. 1 Test ranking they acquired before the start of the match.
On day one of the Test, only 22 overs were possible with West Indies on 62/2. Ishant Sharma had removed Leon Johnson for nine while R Ashwin accounted for Darren Bravo (10) after Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bat first. Opener Kraigg Brathwaite was unbeaten on 32 with Marlon Samuels on four.
