Trailing 0-1 in the Test series against India, the Proteas are set to receive a boost for the second Test in Bengaluru with the return of JP Duminy and Morne Morkel. However, the availability of Dale Steyn is still a worry for the visitors.
Duminy was nursing torn webbing on his right hand while Morkel was recovering from a quad strain. Both sustained their injuries during the ODI series. Steyn suffered from a groin strain during the first Test in Mohali and was unable to bowl in India’s second innings. He, however, came in to bat during South Africa’s failed fourth-innings chase.
"JP Duminy had the stitches removed from this right hand laceration two days ago. He will have a net session in the next couple of days and should be available for selection for the second Test match in Bengaluru," Proteas’ team doctor, Mohammad Moosaji was quoted in a press release issued by Cricket South Africa.
"Morne Morkel has fully recovered from a right quad strain, if the (first) Test had started a day later he probably would have been available for selection.
"The only fitness concern we have at the moment is Dale Steyn. He is still recovering from the groin strain he sustained during this Test match. He will have a fitness test two days before the second Test match before a final call on his availability is made.”
