The Rahane-Dhawan partnership is the highest opening partnership for India in India. The pair obliterated the previous record stand of 196 between Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag against West Indies at Rajkot in 2002.

The above partnership just failed to beat the highest opening stand on Indian soil, which is still held by South Africa’s Gary Kirsten and Herschelle Gibbs at Kochi in 2000.

Suresh Raina, on 44, completed his 5000 ODI runs. He became 11th Indian to accomplish this feat. Incidentally Raina is the slowest among Indians to reach this mark, taking 172 innings. Mohammad Azharuddin held the previous record with 170 innings.

India’s total (363-5) is their third joint highest total against Sri Lanka. The details:

This was the 20th time India scored 350 or more in a ODI – most by any side. They are followed by South Africa (14) and Australia (12).

Upul Tharanga, on 21, completed 1000 ODI runs against India. He became ninth Sri Lankan to do so.

Mahela Jayawardene, on 33, completed 2500 ODI runs against India, thus becoming third Sri Lankan to reach this milestone after Sanath Jayasuriya (2899) and Kumar Sangakkara (2639).

Ishant Sharma (4-34) achieved his best figures in ODIs, bettering 4 for 38 against Australia at Melbourne in 2008. Incidentally it was the fifth time Ishant took a four-wicket haul in ODIs.

India’s 169-run win is their second biggest in terms of run-margin against Sri Lanka, after their 183-run win at Johannesburg in 2003.

The win is India’s eighth biggest win by run margin in ODIs. The details:
