We collect and why, how we use it, and how to review and update it.India were five down for 264 at one stage, but then lost wickets in a heap and were eventually bowled out for 280. The last 5 wickets added only 16 runs. There has been only one worse collapse for India against South Africa. At Nagpur in 2009-10, India lost last five wickets for only 12 runs.
Indian Nos.9, 10 and 11 (Zaheer, Ishant and Shami) were dismissed for a duck. This provided the fifth such instance for India. The other instances:
vs England at Birmingham in 1974
vs England at Lordās in 1979
vs Pakistan at Ahmedabad in 1986-87
vs Australia at Sydney in 2011-12
Zaheer Khan got rid of Graeme Smith once again ā the seventh time in Test cricket ā most times he has dismissed any particular batsman in Tests (along with Australiaās Matthew Hayden).
In all international cricket (Tests, ODIs and T20Is) Zaheer has dismissed Smith 14 times ā the most number of times Smith has lost his wicket to a bowler. Among Indians, only one player ā Kapil Dev ā has dismissed an opposition batsman more often (Desmond Haynes 16 times).
Jacques Kallis recorded his second golden duck in Test cricket. Interestingly, both have come at Wanderers. The only other was against England in 2004-05 when he was caught by Marcus Trescothick off the bowling of Mathew Hoggard.
This duck was Kallisā 16th in Test cricket. Only Mkhaya Ntini (21) and Allan Donald (17) have made more ducks for South Africa in Test cricket (Mark Boucher has also got 16 ducks).
Like India, South Africa also saw a remarkable collapse. From 130 for one, they were six down for 146 ā a mere addition of 16 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. This is the second-worst top-order collapse of any side against India.
Worst top-order collapses vs India (after being one down for 100 or more):
