Jacques Kallis (115) became the fourth South African to score a 100 in his last Test, after Pieter van der Bijl, Lee Irvine and Barry Richards.
Kallis is also the first batsman since 2007-08 to score a ton in his last Test – Phil Jaques made 108 against West Indies at Bridgetown back in 2007-08.
Just before he got out, Jacques Kallis managed to surpass Rahul Dravid’s run aggregate (13,288) to clinch the third spot on the list of leading run-scorers in Test cricket, after Sachin Tendulkar (15,921) and Ricky Ponting (13,378).
Ravindra Jadeja (6/138) returned his best figures in Test cricket, surpassing 5/58 against Australia at Delhi in March this year.
Ravindra Jadeja has now taken 33 wickets in six Tests. Only Narendra Hirwani (39) had taken more wickets in his first six Tests for India.
Jadeja became the first Indian left-arm spinner to take a five-wicket innings haul outside the subcontinent since Dilip Doshi who took 6/102 against England at Manchester in 1982.
Jadeja has now taken 83 wickets in all international cricket in 2013 – most by an Indian. He went past R Ashwin’s tally of 81 wickets. Only Saeed Ajmal (109) has taken more wickets than Jadeja this year (Stuart Broad also has a tally of 83 wickets).
Zaheer Khan’s wicket of Dale Steyn was his 600th in international cricket. At the end of the South African innings, Zaheer’s tally stands at 601 (302 in Tests, 282 in ODIs and 17 in T20Is). He is the fourth Indian to claim 600 wickets in international cricket, after Anil Kumble (956), Harbhajan Singh (694) and Kapil Dev (687).
The 110-run partnership between Faf du Plessis and Robin Peterson is the highest 8th wicket partnership at Kingsmead, Durban. Pravin Amre and Kiran More had added 101 in 1992-93. South Africa’s previous highest stand for this wicket here was 95 between Nummy Deane and Buster Nupen against England in 1927-28.
The run-rate in the above partnership was 6.11 (runs per over). As per the available information, this is the third-highest run-rate in a century stand against India. Shahid Afridi and Kamran Akmal scored at 7.90 during their partnership of 170 runs at Lahore in 2005-06. Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist’s partnership of 197 runs at Mumbai in 2000-01 had a run-rate of 6.12
South Africa’s total of 500 is the highest at Durban in South Africa-India Tests. India’s 334 in the first innings was the previous highest.
The 58.2 overs bowled by Jadeja are the most by an Indian bowler in an innings in South Africa. Anil Kumble had bowled 51 overs in the first innings of the Cape Town Test in 1996-97.
