The TeamsIndiaThe win over Pakistan was something India needed desperately after a series of disappointments in the last few months. The comprehensive nature of the win should act as a further morale booster for the team. MS Dhoni and his men will need all the positivity they can conjure up in their next match, against the defending champions. West Indiesā major representation in the IPL makes their players highly familiar with their Indian counterpartsā games and the subcontinent conditions.
Indiaās team composition is unlikely to go many changes. Besides the logic of retaining the winning combination, the fact that theyāre playing at the same venue, will also come into consideration. The absence of dew in Mirpur in Fridayās game might induce Dhoni to stick with the three-pronged spin attack.
Since most of the batsmen look in good touch, Dhoni might give Yuvraj Singh another game despite the lack of runs from his bat.
West Indies
The defending champions have begun their Bangladesh sojourn well by defeating England and Sri Lanka in the warm-up matches. The men from Caribbean had two perfect games with rather huge margins of victory. All the usual suspects ā Chris Gayle, Dwayne Smith, Sunil Narine and Dwayne Bravo ā are in good nick, making West Indies one of the strongest teams in the tournament.
While there is little to ponder over the batting, it will be interesting to see West Indiesā bowling combination. They played their second warm-up, against Sri Lanka in Mirpur, where Sunil Narine picked up four wickets. If they decide to play three spinners, Krishmar Santokie (who picked 3 for 24 against England) and Samuel Badree could join Narine. In that case, Dwayne Bravo might play the second pacer to Ravi Rampaul. If they decide to play two spinners, either of Sheldon Cottrell or Andre Russell could get a game.
Key Players
IndiaIndiaās win over Pakistan was set up by the spinners and they will continue to be crucial to the teamās fortunes in the rest of the tournament.
With Ashwinās off-spinners and carom ball, Mishraās leggies and googlies and contributions from the part-time slow left-armers, Dhoni has incredible variety at his disposal in the spin-friendly conditions of Bangladesh.
West IndiesWhile there is little doubt over Sunil Narineās effectiveness in T20 cricket, his various IPL encounters with the Indian batsmen will make this contest further interesting. If West Indies borrow Pakistanās strategy of putting an off-spinner upfront against Shikhar Dhawan, the battle will be intense and so will the contest between him and the spin-relishing Indian batsmen like Virat, Raina and Dhoni.
