M Dagar starred in UP’s win over Vidarbha, while Aditya Tare helped Mumbai to a comfortable win against Gujarat in the BCCI T20 League matches. Here is the round-up for the day:
Vidarbha vs UPCA: UP won the high-scoring match at Nagpur by nine runs. With a blistering 48-ball 74-run knock, M Dagar propelled UPCA to 204 for five in their opening game against Vidarbha. Although the next three in the line-up returned without substantial contributions, the opener received support from lower down the order to pile on runs. Amit Mishra then removed Vidarbha's Faiz Fazal with 32 runs on the board. And while J Sharma smashed 57 off 28 balls, UP bowlers struck at regular intervals to bowl the team to victory. P Chawla claimed three, while K Yadav picked two and rest of the bowlers chipped in with a wicket each to keep Vidarbha to 195 for nine and claim a victory.
Mumbai vs Gujarat: With a six-wicket win against Gujarat, Mumbai opened their account in the ongoing BCCI T20 League, 2014. In the West Zone encounter in Mumbai, the Zaheer Khan-led Mumbai attack restricted Gujarat to 126 for nine after opting to field. Zaheer, Pravin Tambe, Prathamesh Dake and Suryakumar Yadav picked two wickets each as the bowlers bowled in tandem to rein in the opposition. MPCA vs Rajasthan: Rajasthan won their opening game of the league by 20 runs. Electing to bat first, A Lamba and S Suwalka laid a solid foundation with a 64-run opening stand. Suwalka was the first to depart for 4, while Lamba went on to score 74. Middle-order batsman Naresh Gehlot (36*) then took the team to 177 for five. Defending the target, the Rajasthan bowlers kept MPCA to 157 for nine to claim victory. G M Parihar claimed four, while Deepak Chahar picked two wickets as they ran through the MP line-up
Saurashtra vs Maharashtra: Maharashtra posted a four-wicket win after bowling Saurashtra out for 123 in their West Zone clash in Mumbai. After Samad Fallah gave Maharashtra their first breakthrough, two wickets each by Dominic Muthusawmi, Chirag Khurana and Ankit Bawne and three run outs helped them skittle the opposition out.
