Melbourne, Feb 5: Mathew Wade’s ODI debut, and a rain interruption, conspired against India, preventing them from beginning the tri-series with a win. India had last beaten the hosts in a reduced-overs ODI way back in 1986. Skipper MS Dhoni tried to put up a fight during an uphill run chase, only to be dismissed after remaining unbeaten in his last six ODI innings.Take a look at the numbers that matter from Australia’s win over a lacklustre India.

  • This was the 106th ODI between Australia and India. The record now reads: Australia – 62, India – 36, No result – eight.
  • This match was the 37th between these two teams in Australia. The record now reads: Australia – 27, India – nine, No result ­– one.
  • Sachin Tendulkar now holds the record for having the longest career span for any player in ODIs – 22 years 49 days. He goes ahead of Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya who had a career span of 21 years 184 days.
  • Matthew Wade and Daniel Christian were making their ODI debut for Australia. A total of 192 players have now represented Australia in ODIs.
  • Matthew Wade (67) became only the third wicketkeeper to score a fifty on ODI debut after Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower (115* v Sri Lanka at New Plymouth in 1992) and India’s Saba Karim (55 v South Africa at Bloemfontein in 1997).
  • MS Dhoni was dismissed for the first time after remaining unbeaten in his last six ODI innings. His streak of unbeaten innings: 78* at Lord’s on 11-09-2011, 50* at Cardiff on 16-09-2011, 87* at Hyderabad on 14-10-2011, 35* at Mohali on 20-10-2011, 15* at Mumbai WS on 23-10-2011 and 75* at Kolkata on 25-10-2011 – all against England.
  • Dhoni scored 369 runs between two dismissals in ODIs – a new Indian record. Ajay Jadeja had scored 354 between 01-04-1998 and 15-04-1998. In all ODIs, only four batsmen – Pakistan’s Mohammad Yousuf (405 in 2002), South Africa’s Lance Klusener (400 in 1999), Pakistan’s Javed Miandad (398 in 1982-83) and Sri Lanka’s Aravinda de Silva (389 in 1996) – have aggregated more runs between two dismissals.
  • India haven’t been able to register a single win in their last eight overseas ODIs. They have lost six, while one match was tied and one offered no result.
  • India had last beaten Australia in a reduced-overs ODI way back in 1986. Since then, they have lost seven such matches against Australia, while three matches ended with no result.
  • Matthew Wade became the sixth Australian player to win the Man-of-the-Match award on ODI debut after Merve Hughes, Brendon Julian, Stuart MacGill, Mark Cosgrove and Shaun Marsh.
