London, Aug 20: Another day of milestones for England. While Ian Bell recorded his maiden double-hundred in Tests, England marched on to their third consecutive 500-plus score. There was a glimmer of hope during India’s innings when Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar came together – the duo surpassing the Greenidge-Haynes record for highest run tally in Tests. But the hope was fleeting – as was the stay of India’s top order, with the exception of Dravid, at the crease. Take a look at the numbers that matter from Day 3 of the fourth and final Test between the two sides.

Ian Bell (235) made his highest score in Test cricket, surpassing the 199 against South Africa at Lord’s in 2008.

Bell’s innings is the highest by any batsman in England-India Tests at The Oval. This surpasses Sunil Gavaskar’s 221 in 1979.

Bell also completed 500 runs in the series, becoming the second batsman to do so after Kevin Pietersen who has aggregated 533.

Bell, on 208, completed his 5,000 runs in Test cricket. He became the 21st England player and 79th batsman overall to reach this milestone.

At 29 years 132 days, Bell is the fourth youngest among England players to complete 5,000 runs. Only Alastair Cook, David Gower and Mike Atherton have reached the mark at a younger age than Bell.

England’s total of 591 for six declared is their second highest against India at The Oval after 594 in 1982.

England have now posted 500-plus runs in three consecutive innings this series; 544 in the second innings of Nottingham Test, 710 for seven declared in the only innings of Birmingham Test, and now 591 for six declared at The Oval. This provides the seventh instance in Test cricket of a side scoring 500-plus runs in three consecutive innings.

India, on the other hand, achieved the dubious distinction of becoming only the second side in Test annals - after Sri Lanka - to concede 500-plus runs in three consecutive innings. Incidentally, Sri Lanka had also suffered a similar fate against England.

Amit Mishra went for 170 runs without taking a wicket. He is now fifth on the list of Indian bowlers to have conceded the highest number of runs without taking a wicket in a Test innings.

Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar became the most successful batting pair in Test cricket during their partnership of 55 runs. The two surpassed the run tally of the West Indies pair of Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes who had aggregated 6482 runs in 148 innings. Dravid and Tendulkar already hold the world record for most century partnerships.

Sachin Tendulkar has aggregated only 182 runs in seven innings in the series at an average of 26.00. This is his worst performance in a series of four matches or more. Tendulkar had averaged 33.66 against South Africa in 1992-93, aggregating 202 in six innings.

Suresh Raina was stumped for the first time in his Test career and the fifth time in his first-class career of 67 matches. He now shares the dubious distinction of recording the longest duck (in terms of balls faced) by an Indian. Irfan Pathan had also got a 29-ball duck against Pakistan at Bangalore in 2004-05.
