Mohali, Oct 21: As India beat England yet again in the Mohali ODI, Ajinkya Rahane posted his highest ODI score with an innings of 91 and Virat Kohli became the fastest Indian (along with Navjot Sidhu) to accomplish 1000 ODI runs in India. Here’s a quick look at all the stats highlights from the Mohali ODI.
-
This match was the 17th day-night ODI at PCA Stadium, Mohali - most played at any Indian ground along with Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
-
Alastair Cook has now won the toss in seven out of last 8 ODIs against India.
-
Jonathan Trott’s 1271 runs in 2011 are the most scored by an England batsman in ODIs in a calendar year.
-
England’s innings consisted of two century partnerships – 101 runs between Trott and Kevin Pietersen for the third wicket and an unbroken 103 runs between Trott and Samit Patel for the fifth wicket. This provided the first instance of two century partnerships in one innings for England against India.
-
Trott became only the fifth England batsman to be involved in two century partnership in the same innings against any country. Others to perform this feat for England are: Allan Lamb (v Pakistan at Nottingham in 1982), Nick Knight (v Australia at Sydney in 2002), Andrew Strauss (v Bangladesh at Nottingham in 2005) and Marcus Trescothick (v Australia at Leeds in 2005)
-
Trott (98*) posted his highest score against India, bettering his 63 at Cardiff on September 16, 2011.
-
Samit Patel (70* off 43 balls) made his highest ODI score, beating the 42 he had made against India at Delhi in the last ODI.
-
India conceded only three extras in England’s total of 298. This is the least extras conceded by a side in a total of 298 or more in ODIs. Canada had conceded four extras in a World Cup 2011 game in Zimbabwe’s total of 298 for 9.
-
Ajinkya Rahane (91) made his highest score in ODIs, beating 54 also against England at Rose Bowl on September 6, 2011.
-
Virat Kohli, on 1, completed his 1,000 runs in ODI matches in India. He became the quickest Indian (along with Navjot Sidhu) to accomplish this feat by taking 24 innings to do so. Incidentally West Indies’ Chris Gayle completed his 1,000 runs on Indian soil in just 21 innings.
-
India’s 300 for five is the second highest successful chase in 20 matches at Mohali’s PCA Stadium. Pakistan had beaten India in 2007 by four wickets after chasing down 322.
-
India have now posted a total of 300 on more occasions than any other country in ODIs. This was the 65th such instance for India in ODIs, which takes them ahead of Australia (64).
-
The win was India’s seventh in consecutive matches at home.
-
India have now lost only twice in last 23 matches at home. Both the defeats came against South Africa. During this period, India won 19 matches, one match was tied and one was no-result.
-
India are now unbeaten in last 11 matches against England at home (this includes a tied game in World Cup 2011). They have now, in fact, won 14 out of their last 16 matches against England in India.
-
The win gave India a series win as well. England have now not beaten India in a bilateral ODI series in India since 1984-85.
