Kolkata, May 12: Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved the historic milestone of completing 100 international centuries earlier this year, was honoured by the State Government of West Bengal and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) ahead of Mumbai Indians’ IPL encounter against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Sachin was presented with a golden bat, ball, 100 rasgollas, 100 gold coins, a traditional Bengali saree for his wife Anjali and a portrait of himself by the renowned Bengali artist, Sanatan Dinda. The joint felicitation by the state government and the CAB took place fifteen minutes before the toss between KKR and MI. Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee presented the mementos to Sachin.
Earlier, CAB president, Mr. Jagmohan Dalmiya, had told the media that Tendulkar was being honoured before this match since the master batsman had come to Kolkata for the first time after reaching the milestone.
Tendulkar, who holds the record for scoring the most number of runs in Test and ODI cricket, was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha a few weeks ago for his outstanding achievements in his cricketing career. The Mumbai Indians opener is also featured on the cover of the most recent edition of Time magazine as ‘The God of Cricket’ for being the world’s greatest sportsman.
