London, Aug 27: The England selectors have announced the squads for the forthcoming NatWest International Twenty20 fixture against India - Old Trafford, Wednesday August 31 - and the NatWest Series against India commencing at the Emirates Durham ICG on Saturday September 3.
The 13-man NatWest International Twenty20 squad includes two uncapped players in Somerset’s Jos Buttler and Nottinghamshire’s Alex Hales while Ben Stokes, who made his England debut in Ireland yesterday, features in a 14-strong squad for the NatWest ODI Series against India as per the ECB website.
Kevin Pietersen, meanwhile, will be rested for the five-match ODI series against India.
National selector Geoff Miller was quoted by the ECB website as saying, “Across both squads we believe we've selected an exciting blend of experienced international performers along with some exciting young players with a great deal of talent.
“We will need to play a high quality brand of limited-overs cricket against the world champions India”, he added.
“We're very excited to have included some bright young players in the form of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, all of whom have proved themselves domestically and will now be looking to successfully take the step up to international level,” he elaborated.
“The decision to omit Kevin Pietersen from the one-day squad is in line with our policy of sensibly managing player workloads and will give the opportunity to another batsman to test himself batting at number four, ” Miller explained
