Sehwag to lead Delhi Ranji squad

Mumbai, Sept 24: Virender Sehwag has been named the captain of Delhi’s Ranji Trophy team, while Gautam Gambhir has been appointed vice-captain. The Ranji Trophy selection committee met at the Delhi and District Association (DDCA) and announced a squad of 35 probables, which also features Virat Kohli and Ishant Sharma.

Delhi will play their first Ranji game of the 2012 season on November 2 against Uttar Pradesh. In all likelihood, the national players will take part in the first match in order to prepare for the home Test series against England, beginning November 15.

The Delhi team will welcome the presence of these players given that Sehwag, Gambhir and Kohli didn’t play any games for them last season.

The 2012 season will see a revamped format of the Ranji Trophy and Delhi will be part of group B along with Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Baroda and Odisha.
