Maharashtra cricketer killed in road accident

Mumbai, March 5: Budding Maharashtra cricketer Kishor Bhikane was killed after his motorcycle collided with a speeding container on the Latur-Barshi highway. Bhikane was returning from a Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) invitational match in Sakhra Pati village along with cricketer Abhilash Lokhande, riding pillion, when their two-wheeler was hit by a truck. Bhikane succumbed to his injuries while Lokhande, who suffered multiple fractures on his left leg and left hand, is critical.

“Bhikane was a little nervous after Latur lost the match under his captaincy to Aurangabad. He had a word with his teammates and left the venue in a hurry," Secretary of the Latur District Cricket Association, Kamlesh Thakkar, was quoted as saying by a leading English daily.

24-year-old Bhikane played for Maharasthra in three first-class games, taking six wickets in his nascent cricket career. He last played for Maharashtra in the group stages of the 2011-12 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in October last year.
