Mumbai, June 20: The BCCI conducted an Induction Course for the umpires who have passed the Level – II Umpires Examination from 18th to 20th June 2012 at the National Academy for Umpires (NAU) in Nagpur. Mr. Sudhir Dabir, Vice President, BCCI inaugurated the course. Mr. V K Ramaswamy, Mr. S K Bansal, Mr. V N Kulkarni and Mr. Bomi Jamula were the faculty who conducted the course.
NAU was inaugurated in May 2010 and all educational courses, examinations for umpires, scorers and video analysts are conducted at the Academy. The topics covered in the course were – Match Management, Conflict Resolution, Code of Conduct, Online Reporting, VJD System, Calculation of overs in rain affected match, Team Work, Field Craft etc.
The process of induction of these umpires into BCCI Panel began with Level – I courses for umpires conducted throughout the country. Altogether 340 candidates attended the Level – I courses from different states.
A Refresher course was conducted for those who passed the Level – I examination and all those who got Grade “A”, 71 candidates, had qualified to appear for the Level – II Examination.
A preparatory course was conducted before they appeared for their theory examination. All those who scored 80% or more qualified for viva voce and all those who scored 90% or more were shortlisted for posting in Affiliate & Associate Member Tournament as part of their practical examination.
The Umpires Performance Review Committee comprising of Mr. S. Venkataraghavan, Mr. V. K. Ramaswamy and Mr. A. V. Jayaprakash had reviewed the videos of the decisions given by them in different matches and also other aspects like body language, positioning, match management etc.
