We collect and why, how we use it, and how to review and update it.Mumbai, Jan 31: Mumbai have lifted the Cooch Behar Under-19 Trophy based on a 23-run first-innings lead against archrivals Maharashtra at the Wankhede Stadium here today.
Atif Attarwal scored fifty as Mumbai were skittled for 173 runs after opting to bat first. Coming in to bat at No. 8, the pacer’s innings was crucial as wickets fell at the other end. While Amol Chinte claimed Mumbai’s top-order, Kazi Shamsu Zuma cleaned up the tail. The pacer and the spinner took four wickets apiece while Satayjit Bacchav chipped in with a wicket.
The strong Maharashtra line-up however failed to chase the small total as the Mumbai bowlers ran through their batting. An inspired five-wicket haul by pacer Akash Parker then helped the hosts bowl out the strong Maharashtra line-up for a mere 150 runs on the second day and win back the advantage.
The Mumbai batsmen showed more application in their second outing. Besides Jaideep Pardeshi’s 125 and a quickfire 65 by skipper Harmeet Singh, patient knocks by Akarshit Gomel (53 off 195), Mairaj Khan (40 off 125), and an injured Prateek Prabhu (44 off 171) ensured Mumbai won the title. Attarwala too contributed with a useful 47.
Bowled out for 439 after lunch on the last day, Mumbai had managed to set the visitors a 463-run target. As it turned out, Parker’s first-innings five-for for Mumbai gave the hosts the crucial advantage that helped them win back the coveted trophy.
