We collect and why, how we use it, and how to review and update it.Dubai, Oct 21: With the Twenty20 format rapidly gaining popularity amongst cricket followers, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to launch the Twenty20 International team and player rankings in a ceremony in Dubai on October 24.
David Richardson, ICC General Manager - Cricket, was quoted as saying,"I think rankings are always going to be a talking point, that's what they are intended to do, to generate interest in the game and generate context. Who is to say they are 100-percent right, every follower will think their team is better than the other. They are robust in their creation, over time they do reflect who the better team is and that's all you can ask - they will bring discussion but that is to be expected," by the ICC Cricket World Radio Show.
An ICC statement stated that the first set of rankings are being released ahead of the India-England Twenty20 International, which will be played in Kolkata on October 27.
In the lead up to next year's ICC World Twenty20 2012 in Sri Lanka, at least 12 Twenty20 Internationals featuring the full members will be played.
The ICC also declared in addition to these, some of the matches in next year's ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2012, which will be staged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 14-25 March, will also have T20I status.
