India v Australia – 2nd QF: A numbers guide

Ahmedabad, March 24:MS Dhoni made as many as 21 bowling changes to prevent the Australian batsmen from sinking their teeth into the Indian attack. Yuvraj Singh became just the fifth player to complete the all-round double of scoring 250 runs and taking more than 10 wickets in a single edition of the World Cup.  We give you a quick glimpse of statistical highlights like these from today’s 2011 ICC World Cup game between India and Australia.

 379:Runs aggregated by Sachin Tendulkar at the 2011 ICC World Cup – the most by any batsman. He went ahead of Kumar Sangakkara’s tally of 363 runs.

100:MS Dhoni was captaining India for the 100th time in a One-Day International. He became the third Indian (after Mohammad Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly) and 15th player overall to captain a side in 100 matches.

32:Number of illegitimate deliveries (wides/no-balls) bowled by Shaun Tait at the 2011 ICC World Cup – the most by any bowler.

21:Number of bowling changes made by MS Dhoni during the Australian innings. He used seven bowlers. The longest he employed any bowler was Harbhajan and Yuvraj who had a six-over spell each. On nine occasions a bowler was used for just one over.

19:Years after which Australia failed to reach a World Cup semi-final. The last such occasion was in the 1992 World Cup.

18:Percentage success for India getting the DRS right. They wasted both their fielding reviews today, making it just two correct reviews out of a total of 11 in the tournament.

5:India made their fifth entry to the World Cup semi-finals. They had done so in 1983 (went on to win the tournament), in 1987 (lost to England), in 1996 (lost to Sri Lanka) and in 2003 (beat Kenya to enter the final where they lost to Australia).

5:Number of players with the all-rounder’s double of 250 runs and 10 wickets in a World Cup tournament. Yuvraj Singh became the latest entrant into this exclusive club, joining fellow Indian Kapil Dev (in 1983), South Africa’s Lance Klusener (in 1999), Zimbabwean Neil Johnson (in 1999) and Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya (in 2003).

5:Number of fifty-plus scores made by Yuvraj Singh at the 2011 ICC World Cup – the most by any batsman.

4:Number of Man-of-the-Match awards won by Yuvraj at the 2011 ICC World Cup. He now shares the record for most awards in one World Cup tournament with Aravinda de Silva (in 1996) and Lance Klusener (in 1999).

4:Number of centuries scored by Ponting in the World Cup while leading Australia – the most by any captain. He was earlier level with India’s Sourav Ganguly with three centuries.

 3: Number of times Australia have suffered a loss in the quarter-final of a tournament. On all three occasions, India have been responsible for their exit. They lost by 44 runs at Dhaka in 1998 and by 20 runs at Nairobi in 2000 - in the ICC Champions Trophy.

2:Number of times Ponting has played against India in an ICC World Cup knock-out game. He scored hundreds on both occasions. The earlier instance was in 2003 when Ponting made an unbeaten 140 in the final.

1:Ricky Ponting became the first batsman to aggregate 1,000 runs against India in India.

1:Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman to aggregate 18,000 runs in ODIs. No one else has aggregated even 14,000.
