We give you a quick glimpse of these and other statistical highlights from today’s 2011 ICC World Cup game between India and South Africa:
0: India are yet to beat South Africa in a World Cup game. They have now lost on all three occasions.
1:India suffered their first defeat in ICC World Cup 2011.
2:Number of South African batsmen to aggregate 1,000 runs in World Cup. Jacques Kallis emulated Herschelle Gibbs today.
4:Number of wickets lost by India during the Batting Powerplay – worst performance by any team in the ICC World Cup 2011. England had also lost 4 wickets against India at Bangalore on February 27.
5:Harbhajan Singh became fifth Indian bowler to capture 250 wickets in ODIs after Anil Kumble (337), Javagal Srinath (315), Ajit Agarkar (288) and Zaheer Khan (264).
6:Sachin Tendulkar extended his record of scoring most number of centuries in the World Cup to six.
11.4:Overs taken by India to reach 100 – fastest 100 for a team in ICC World Cup 2011. Sri Lanka had reached the 100 in 13.4 overs against Kenya at Colombo RPS on March 1.
13:Number of times Zaheer Khan has dismissed Graeme Smith in international cricket – six times in ODIs, 6 times in Tests and once in T20Is.
29:Runs added by last nine wickets in Indian innings. They were 267 for one at one stage, but were eventually bowled out for 296. This is India’s worst ever nine-wicket collapse in ODIs.
87:Runs scored by Indian batsmen in the first 10 overs- most by any side in the ICC World Cup 2011. Interestingly India held the previous record also, as they scored 82 (for 3) against Netherlands in their last game.
193:Sixes hit by Sachin Tendulkar – most by any Indian batsman in ODIs. He went past Sourav Ganguly’s tally of 190 sixes. Tendulkar also established a new Indian record of most sixes for India in the World Cup, taking his tally of sixes to 27- two more than Sourav Ganguly.
300:South Africa’s total is the highest ever winning total in World Cup by any team against India while batting second. Sri Lanka had made 272 for 4 at Delhi in 2006 to beat India (England made 338 for 8 at Bangalore in this edition to tie the game).
