Meanwhile, with a sparkling innings of 113, Yuvraj Singh notched up the highest score ever by an Indian against West Indies in World Cup competitions. We give you a quick glimpse of these and other statistical highlights from today’s 2011 ICC World Cup game between India and West Indies.
1:R Ashwin, playing his first 2011 ICC World Cup match, bowled the first over of the West Indies innings. He is the first ever spinner to open the bowling for India in a World Cup game.
2:India made their only second successful review (out of nine) in the World Cup when umpire Steve Davis had to overturn his original decision of declaring Kirk Edwards not out. India’s only other successful review was in the game against Ireland.
3:Number of Man-of-the-Match awards won by Yuvraj Singh – the most by any player in this World Cup. He is only the second Indian player to win three awards in a single edition of World Cup after Sachin Tendulkar (in 2003).
5:Wickets taken by Ravi Rampaul. His figures (5/51) are the sixth best by any player in his first World Cup match.
6:Number of bowlers used by Dhoni in first 21 overs. Munaf Patel was brought on for the first time in the 25th over as the seventh bowler for India in the West Indies innings.
84:Runs for which the last 15 wickets of the two teams fell in the match. India lost their last seven wickets for 50 runs while West Indies lost their last eight for just 34 runs.
113:Runs scored by Yuvraj Singh. His innings is the highest by an Indian batsman against West Indies in a World Cup game. The previous best was Yashpal Sharma’s 89 at Manchester in 1983.
268:India’s total of 268 is their highest against West Indies in the World Cup. Their previous best was 262 for 8 (in 60 overs) at Manchester in 1983.
450:Number of matches played by Sachin Tendulkar - the first player to reach this milestone in ODI history.
