Report: BCCI Corporate Trophy 2012-13, Final

Chemplast beat India Cements by 79 runs to lift the BCCI Corporate Trophy 2012-13. Sandeep Sharma (two wickets) and Piyush Chawla (six wickets for 32 runs) turned in impressive bowling performances for Chemplast.

Earlier, after electing to bat first, R Sathish powered Chemplast to 267 with a century after his team was reduced to 14 for 3. T he middle-order bat anchored the innings to take them past the 200-run mark before being dismissed for 105 by M Raja. He found an able ally in Ajay Kudua (58), while the rest of the lower-order batsmen chipped in with useful runs to help set a competitive target. India Cements pacer, V Yo Mahesh, who had jolted the Chemplast innings at the start with two wickets, finished with a four-for in the innings.

The Chemplast bowling attack then ran through the opposition line-up to skittle them out for 188 with 29 balls to spare. Sharma removed KB Arun Kartik and S Badrinath in the first over with only a run on the board. Piyush Chawla claimed six wickets to wrap up the India Cements innings. Although Dinesh Karthik (44) and Ravichandran Ashwin (36) offered resistance in the middle and Vijay Shankar put up a late fight with 67 runs, the lack of partnerships and loss of wickets at regular intervals caused irreparable damage.

Brief scores: Chemplast 267/7 in 50 overs (R Sathish 105, Ajay Kudua 58, V YoMahesh 4/53) beat India Cements 188 all out in 45.1 (Vijay Shankar 67, Piyush Chawla 6/32, S Sharma 2/27) by 79 runs
