After it looked like England were poised to set up a steep target for India, Yuvraj Singh brought the hosts right back into the first T20I with three quick wickets. The all-rounder not only put the breaks on the England innings, but he also scored a quick fire 38 to ensure a five-wicket win for his team. The left-hander, therefore, registered the all-round double of taking 3 wickets and scoring 25-plus runs in a match for the second time in his T20I career.

This match was the sixth between these two teams. Both have won three matches each. Both sides have won one match each played on Indian soil.
Stuart Meaker and James Tredwell were making their T20I debut for England. Parvinder Awana was making his T20I debut for India.
Eoin Morgan was playing his first T20I as captain. He became the seventh player to captain England in the shortest format.
Pune’s Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium became the sixth Indian ground to host a Twenty20 International after Mumbai Brabourne, Nagpur’s VCA Stadium, Mohali’s PCA Stadium, Kolkata’s Eden Gardens and Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Alex Hales’ innings of 56 is the highest for England against India. The previous highest was 53 by Kevin Pietersen at Kolkata on October 29, 2011. Interestingly, Hales had made 0, 11 and 0 in his three previous innings against India.
Hales raced to his fifty off just 26 balls – the third fastest fifty by any batsman against India. Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara had taken 21 balls to score his fifty at Nagpur on December 9, 2009. South Africa’s Morne van Wyk had taken 24 balls for his fifty at Durban on January 9, 2011.
Yuvraj Singh’s figures of 3 for 19 are the best by any bowler in a T20I on Indian soil. He obliterated England’s Steven Finn’s 3 for 22 against India at Kolkata on October 29, 2011. Incidentally, the previous best figures by an Indian in India were 3 for 23 by Yuvraj himself, against Sri Lanka at Mohali on December 12, 2009.
Yuvraj Singh (38 runs and 3/19) provided the second instance of an Indian performing the all-round feat of scoring 25 runs and capturing 3 wickets in the same match. Interestingly, it was Yuvraj, who did so on the earlier occasion – 60 runs and 3/23 against Sri Lanka at Mohali on December 12, 2009.
Yuvraj now joins Australia’s Shane Watson and Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez in performing the all-round feat of 25 runs and 3 wickets in a match on more than one occasion. Watson, in fact, has done so on three occasions.
Yuvraj has now hit 12 sixes against England. Now only South Africa’s Loots Bosman has hit more sixes against England – 13.
India registered their fourth highest successful chase in Twenty20 Internationals.
Yuvraj Singh won his fifth man of the match award in Twenty20 Internationals. No other Indian has won more than two awards.
