Delhi win Senior Women’s T20 Elite Super League

Delhi emerged winners of the Senior Women’s T20 in the Elite Group by finishing on top of the Super League table on the basis of net run rate. In the Plate Group final, Odisha beat Kerala by eight runs.

Elite Super League:


Delhi, Maharashtra and Baroda finished the four-team Super League with two wins each while Goa failed to register a single win. 

Delhi restricted Goa to 96 for five in their last game of the SL and attained the target with 37 balls to spare as they posted a nine-wicket win over the opponents. After electing to field, Ankita Sinha gave Delhi their first breakthrough with the wicket of Tejashwini Duragad leaving the team on 28 for one and three runs later accounted for Vinavi Gurav. With runs hard to come by and wickets falling at regular intervals, Sanjula Naik saw Goa through their stipulated overs with an unbeaten 34.

Chasing the 97-run target, Latika Kumari was sent back by Naik ending the opening stand for 62. Neha Tanwar (63* off 50) then took Delhi to victory with R Dhar.

Scorecard

Delhi had earlier lost their first game of the SL to Baroda by eight wickets. Put in to bat, Baroda had restricted the Reema Malhotra-led team to 109 for seven. Opener’s L Kumari and Priya Punia had scored 20 runs each while the rest of the line-up chipped in to help the team past the three-figure mark. However, Baroda opener’s got their side off to a good start with a68-run openings stand to set-up the win. While B Surti was sent back for 44 by Mandeep Kaur, P Patel had anchored Baroda to victory with an unbeaten 37.

In their second game Delhi defeated Maharashtra by seven wickets to open their account in the SL phase. R Dhar claimed 4/14 as Delhi restricted the Anuja Patil-led team to a paltry 58 for nine. She was complemented by Ankita Sinha, who claimed 2/12 while Mandeep Kaur and Babita Negi picked a wicket each to set the stage for a thumping win. Chasing the small total Delhi lost Neha Tanwar with 26 runs on the board. Six runs later M Magre, who had accounted for the opener also removed Dhar to leave Delhi on 32 for two. Devika Vaidya then followed up with the wicket of Latika Kumari to leave Delhi on 34 for three. Mandeep and Arushi Goel then took the team to the target.

Scorecard 

Maharashtra, who finished at the No 2 spot beat Baroda by 14 runs in their last match.

Plate Group

With a eight-run win over Kerala, Odisha won the Plate Group final on January 27, 2018.

The Madhusmita Behera-led team opted to bat first in the all-important game and set Kerala a 109-run target. Madhuri Meheta and the captain put together a 49 runs opening partnership until Behera was sent back by Keerthy James. 10 runs later, the bowler accounted for Meheta as well. Sarita Meher and Pragyan Mohanty then helped the team to 84 until the latter was sent back by Minnu Mani. Having taken the team to 106, Meher was run out for 12 with three balls left in the innings. After adding two runs to total, Kadambini was trapped lbw by Asha S.

Sujata Mallik, Rasanara Parwin and Sushree Dibyadarshini then claimed two wickets each while Priyanka Priyadarshini and Behera took a wicket each to bowl Kerala out for 100 with four balls to spare.
