A strapping fast bowler from Delhi, Parvinder Awana made his first-class debut in 2007 and picked up 12 wickets in the five matches he played that season. Awana bettered that performance in the next season when he scalped 28 wickets from seven games at an average of 24. This crest was followed by a trough as he was dropped during the 2010-11 season with the wickets drying out. However, he shot himself back to prominence with a highly successful 2011-12 Ranji Trophy season in which he took 35 wickets in seven matches. He continued to impress in the 2012-13 season and was duly rewarded with his maiden Test call-up for the fourth and final Test of the series against England, in Nagpur.
